Asheville Day 1 (The Drive)

Nashville was much cooler today being as yesterday was probably the hottest day they’ve had in the last 150 years – and us with no air conditioning, of course it was the day we were leaving.  On the way out of town we drove by the Willie Nelson Museum and Cooter’s from Duke’s of Hazard fame.

Driving through the mountains was breath-taking and sometimes downright terrifying for this flat land Florida girl.  We decided to detour in Knoxville to satisfy our BBQ desires.  First stop, Sweet P’s.  Yup, you guessed it – our spontaneity didn’t pay off and they were closed on random Thursday afternoon.  Second stop – Dead End BBQ their tag line is…The Search Ends Here.  Their pulled pork was good, but their sauces weren’t to either of our liking.  Yet the sweet potato waffle fries more than made up for it!

Once we got to my family’s house in Asheville, Anna took us for a walk to the Sunny Point Café.  Our mediocre food hunt was over.

An evening chatting and catching up rounded out the day.

About Heather Hamel

Growing up with horses is a little girls dream come true. Heather’s dream in life was to be a horse trainer - how dreams change - sort of! She moved to the wonderfully historic town of St. Augustine, Florida and was a historic tour guide and a ghost story teller while putting herself through college to become a special education teacher. After graduating, she felt the pull of horses in her life again. That's when she met Kobi! She learned quickly that when you own horses you become a part time vet, part time nutritionist, and full time equestrian. She wouldn't change a thing! In addition to being completely obsessed with her herd, she still teaches and tutors students with learning disabilities, and more specifically, dyslexia.
