Now that school has started again and my ‘real’ job pulls me away from my writing, my schedule had to change. Having summertime off is wonderful for writers: 2 months of writing as long and as often as I want.
But when the school bell rings I am away from home (and those I hold dear) for up to 10 hours a day if I’m tutoring. Not practical since I still need to write.
I’m not quite up to an extra hour a day (that will start next week), but I’m currently getting up at 5:45 a.m. to allow me a quiet 45 minutes to write each morning. Even with my annoying ‘morning person’ status, I still need to have a three-step alarm system.
First the alarm clock starts to buzz at 5:45, then the coffee pot begins dripping at 5:46, if that doesn’t do the trick at 5:47 I feel four small feet jump into bed and tiptoe up to my head, purring along the way. Even if the buzzing and dripping don’t make it through my sleep hazed mind, my hand will always find its way to the fuzzy, Angora soft head of Cricket, letting her purrs bring me back to the land of the wide-awake.
What a way to start the day!
